Packt Publishing has been flexible and focused on releasing quickly specialized books on various technologies. Especially for the web, they basically cover every hot topic so, if you are in the need of a book, have a look at their website.
Packt has gained wide acceptance by being a good promoter and supporter of successful open source projects. They donate back to the community and they cultivate the ground for more people to jump in.
Now, regarding Joomla, they have published a good variety of books targeting newcomers, experienced users and developers as well. As you probably know, Joomla is not that famous for its great documentation thus, any effort towards softening the learning curve is important.
Recently, Packt published the book "Joomla! 1.5 Multimedia" by Allan Walker, an interesting book for non-technical enthusiasts that need to go beyond the basics. In contrast with various other books that provide just round-ups of the real thing, this one remains consistent and focused on the topic.
The book covers file management, fonts, images, video, audio, RSS, podcasts, social media, templates, among other things you will find useful, always referring to general web design concepts and practices as well as to high quality third-party extensions.
I had a look at chapter 4, "Adding and Managing Image Content" and I found it thorough and attention-grabbing. In particular, I liked the presentation of the various image galleries that are available for Joomla.
